The largest and most influential technology companies. Generally used to refer to Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta and Microsoft.

Closed Source

Used in the context of software. The source code that creates the software is unavailable to the public for review.

Data

Measurements or observations that are collected as a source of information.

Data Privacy

The principle that individuals should have control over their data.

Free Open Source Software

IP Address

Internet Protocol Address. A unique identifier assigned to your device when you connect to the internet.

Metadata

All the data about a file that isn't the file itself. For instance, when you take a photo with your smart phone, metadata including the date, time, location and device name is also created.

Open Source

Used in the context of software. The source code that creates the software is publicly available to be reviewed and scrutinised.
